Couples therapy

Time for two, when you are both free

For partners whose calendars rarely line up: longer sessions, held in the evening or on a Sunday.

  • 80 minutes, not 50

Both of you get time to speak, and nobody waits for a turn.

  • Evening and Sunday hours

Selena Curiel and Leonard Mims see couples after 5 p.m. and on weekends.

  • Neither of you is the problem

Your clinician does not take a side. The relationship is the client.

Before you book

What to know first

  • How we work

Your clinician meets you together first, then decides with you whether some sessions should be one to one. They name the approach they use and where they trained.

  • What this is not

Couples therapy is not a way to decide who is right. It is also not the right place for a situation where one of you is afraid of the other: if that is happening, call us or the numbers on our help page, and we will talk about a safer first step.

  • How often, and for how long

Many couples meet every other week. Your clinician sets the pace with you, and we do not promise a number of sessions.

  • How it is paid

With insurance where the plan covers it, or by the session if you pay yourself, with a written estimate in advance.

Questions

Questions about couples therapy

Do we both have to come to every session?

Not always. Your clinician may suggest a session with one of you, and says so openly with both of you present.

What is confidential when two people are in the room?

Your clinician explains the rules in writing before you start, including what happens to something one of you says alone.

Can we do couples therapy by video?

Yes, if both of you are in Iowa during the session. Many couples meet at the office on a Sunday and use video on weeknights.

Find an hour you can both keep

Tell us which evenings or Sundays you share, and we will suggest a clinician and a time.
